Fermoy-based milliner Ann Flynn became interested in millinery almost a decade ago after seeing photos of fabulous hats from different race meetings.
She had also been urged to design a hat for a mad hatters party by a friend who felt she would be able to do it because she had already started her own line of costume jewellery.
Ann got hooked and now hats are her main focus, instead of jewellery. After doing courses in sinamay and felt millinery, Ann has developed her own ideas and designs under the Hat Trick label.
Ann is a reporter with the Evening Echo, where her main area is crime and security.
As a result, she looks forward to being able to work with bursts of colour in her studio at home at night and at weekends. Her designs have been worn at race meetings at the Melbourne Cup, Royal Ascot, the Kentucky Derby, Galway and Punchestown.
An added feather to her cap was a commission by a customer attending a garden party hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.
She is inspired by nature, particularly by flowers, and loves colour explosions in her pieces. Vintage fashion looks also inspire her.
